Relaxation with a Difference - Music for Dogs' Ears

Did you know? Music doesn't just relax us two-legged creatures; our furry friends also enjoy and relax to the pleasant sound of music. In this article, we'll tell you how this was discovered, which music genre is most popular among our beloved pets, and how you can ensure your paw feels perfectly content.

Music through a dog's life

After a hard day, getting into the car, turning up the music, and loudly singing along as you drive into the evening. Sound familiar? Music not only relaxes and relieves us two-legged creatures; several studies conducted in various animal shelters have shown that music with a low beat per minute can positively affect the stress levels of four-legged animals. How pawsome is that?

Fa-Mi-Re-Do, this music makes the four-legged friends happy

Before you play your entire playlist for Paw, be warned: even our four-legged friends have their own unique taste. Let's just hope you and Paw are into the same bands!

If you absolutely can't agree on the same artist, the Spotify tool, Pet Playlist, might help. This tool determines what music your furry friend might like based on the character traits of your dog that you provide to the app.

How can you find out if your furry friend is really into it? Play the playlist and observe your pet's behavior. Does he or she seem calmer? Or perhaps more nervous than before?

Research, by the way, suggests that dogs generally prefer softer sounds, which are mainly found in classical music, reggae, and soft rock. Bad news for all metalheads: furry friends tend not to like harsh riffs.

Attention to all who play their new favorite song on repeat: According to studies, dogs tend to tune out sounds and thus songs that they hear repeatedly – so always keep the playlist varied!

By the way: Paw also enjoys listening to an audio play when you're snuggled up on the sofa.

What to do about nervous and jumpy fur noses?

A dog's life can be quite exciting and sometimes nerve-wracking.

Be it holidays, when unfortunately fireworks are still generously set off, or everyday noise such as construction sites, cars, and household appliances, which we bipeds perceive less intensely than our four-legged companions; our dogs' hearing and nerves are really put to the test throughout their lives.

Fortunately, not only music helps our furry friends, but also herbal mixtures such as NervenKlar or CBD oils (without THC) can help our four-legged friends relax and boost their immune system through better sleep.

Our guests at Villa Bunterhund have found playing classical music to be effective in reducing any feelings of nervousness or stress. During lunchtime and also in the evening before bedtime, your paw can therefore listen to Beethoven, Mozart and co. via our Sonos speakers to fall asleep deeply relaxed and process the exciting day.

For a relaxed and healthy dog life

These noises, Paw can't stand at all

Although hardly noticed by their owners, certain sounds and noises can be quite intimidating for four-legged friends – especially if they have never heard them before. These include:

  • Vacuum cleaners
  • Coffee grinders
  • Washing machines
  • Lawnmowers
  • Air conditioners
  • Hairdryers
  • Alarm clocks
  • Skateboards and longboards
  • Fireworks
  • Rattling keys
  • Thunderstorms
  • Sirens

While you can't magically make the unpleasant noises of our modern world disappear, simply using the devices in another room already reduces the volume and thus the fear factor.

No idea how to escape the New Year's fireworks? Here are some dog-friendly New Year's activities!

So, have you and your furry friend already created your own pawsome playlist? Or do you prefer to chill together in the living room and listen to a podcast or an audio play?

We're really excited to hear about your furballs' favorite songs. Please write them in the comments below!
